Granite is an all natural product composed of quartz, feldspar and mica. Granite is mined from the earth in large blocks that are then cut into slabs. Granite is offered in a wide variety of colors and patterns every slab is unique. Most granite comes with a highly polished finish, although some stone comes with a honed surface.

Granite Qualities
Easy Care & Maintenance
When properly sealed, granite is easily cleaned with warm soapy water and everyday detergents. Avoid chemical, acidic or abrasive cleaners to prevent your sealer from being stripped away and dry the surface completely after cleaning. Although a sealer does help to protect your granite, it only prolongs the spill from seeping into the porous stone. However, when granite is sealed properly, it will resist staining and bacteria.
Durable
Granite is one of the hardest materials on the planet. It is naturally heat and scratch resistant and with a proper sealant, it’s also UV and stain resistant. One thing to keep in mind when choosing granite, is that although it’s an incredibly hard material, it is not indestructible. You’ll need to take care not to allow any heavy impact on corners or edges or the granite will crack, chip or break. Don’t fret, Premier Countertops offers a granite repair service.
Stain Resistant
Not all granite is naturally stain resistant, but with proper care and a quality sealant, it is. If you re-seal your countertop on a regular basis, the surface should remain relatively protected. Granite must be sealed every 1-3 years with a high quality, food-service grade sealer. However, Premier Countertops offers a 15 year sealer that will eliminate the hassle of re-sealing your surface every few years.
Value
New granite countertops make your home more valuable as well as more attractive. Because they have an incredibly long lifespan, granite countertops are a very cost-effective solution for many homeowners. Any real estate professional will tell you that granite countertops will significantly increase a home’s long term property value. When properly maintained, the beauty and elegance of granite will last for generations.
Heat Resistant
Granite is formed in the earth by heat and compression, so granite countertops are naturally and extremely heat resistant. Most cookware will not get hot enough to cause damage to the natural stone, but we always recommend a hot pad or trivet.
Style
Granite is mined from the earth in large, natural chunks, making each granite slab imperfect and unique. Granite has an asymmetrical look that is stunning to the eye. The imperfections and inconsistency are what make it beautifully unique.
UV Resistant
Depending on color and finish, granite has a fairly good UV resistance when the right sealer is applied. Typically, you should seal your granite every 1-3 years. However, Premier Countertops offers a 15 year sealer service that will help protect your surface from UV light as well as everyday use.
Scratch & Abrasion Resistant
A large advantage to granite is that it is extremely scratch resistant. The harder the stone, the more resistant it is to abrasion. Granite lands at about a 6-7 on the Mohs Scale of hardness, so you’ll absolutely want to use a cutting board or you’ll blunt your knives in a hurry. Diamonds, other granite and hardened steel are some of the only materials that will scratch your granite.
